Teacher Bio

After graduating from Toronto’s Humber College as the first dual Voice and Violin Performance/Composition major, Maya began her Suzuki Teacher training under Paule Barsalou. She then began teaching at The Miles Nadal JCC Suzuki School in 2006 where she taught private lessons, group, theory, choir & drama. She briefly served as 416 Representative the Board of the Suzuki Association of Ontario.
In early 2020, alongside longtime friends and colleagues Amber Walton-Amar, Amanda Penner and Laura Bates, she co-founded Bowed Arts - A Suzuki string school built on accessible, inclusive, equitable and relevant string education. When in person classes can safely resume Bowed Arts will offer a wide variety of private and group class opportunities. Orchestral mentorship, global fiddle tradition, Pop Culture, media arts & non-Classical programming will run alongside traditional Suzuki classes.
